Audemars Piguet Millenary Minute Repeater Watch
For 2011 one of Audemars Piguet’s exotic complication pieces will be this Millenary Minute Repeater watch. I was told by Audemars Piguet that their Millenary line is undergoing an overhaul. Looks like 2011 will not be the year we see new Millenary cases and style, but we will see this sophisticated Minute Repeater with another interesting balance wheel and escapement device. The terminology throws me off a bit. There are terms like “AP Exhaust Pulse Direct.” Not sure what that is, but it sounds like something from a race car, not timepiece. Previous to this new movement, Audemars Piguet showed off its AP Escapement. That escapement was really fast, to allow for greater accuracy. The AP Escapement was one that they developed to run at something like 72,000 bpm (amazing). Here in the Millenary Minute Repeater, the movement has slower 21,600 bpm movement, but AP uses one of those trendy new “double balance spring.” These are pretty neat and are supposed to hel
Ask The Audience: How Many Watches Do You Buy A Year?
I recently had a discussion with a few fellow watch collectors and innocently asked the question, “So, how many watches do you tend to buy a year?” Once I asked, I realized how wildly the answer to such a question could vary from person to person. Some enthusiasts probably have strict quotas to meet or not exceed per year, such as affording themselves two new timepiece per year. Other people probably purchase more spontaneously without tracking how many watches they tend to get each calendar year. Either way, the answer to “how many watches do you buy a year?” seems so important because collecting timepieces without a strategy can (and often does) lead to burnout. Having a limit to the watches you purchase per year can, in many instances, meaningfully extend the satisfaction that comes from acquiring new watches. Are you pacing your watch collecting journey appropriately? You don’t need to remind me that my above statement comes with a little bit of irony.
