HYT H4 Alinghi Special Edition Watch
I’ve been waiting for this. The HYT H4 Alinghi Special Edition has introduced a significant dimension to HYT watches that was not there before: a second crown. But wait, I hear you cry, what on Earth can it be for? The HYT H4 Alinghi Special Edition is basically a clone of its predecessor, is it not? The movement architecture is practically identical to the H1! The calibre is skeletonized, but that’s it: Where’s the complication that requires a second crown?Well, in a funny kind of way, the crown is the complication. Hidden between 4 and 5 o’clock is a small generator, which is charged up by winding the crown. When depressed, the dial is bathed in a bright white light for a maximum of five seconds. The light source is two minuscule LEDs concealed by the 6 o’clock marker. This is an entirely mechanical process-no battery. Nothing but good old gears and finger-twiddling. Another first for HYT.
Cartier ID Two Concept Watch: Goodbye Metal
In the slow warm Swiss summer, Cartier wrapped up its announcement of their latest concept watch called the ID Two (ID2). It is a follow-up to the ID One watch from a few years ago and while something totally different, is a serious step forward in the progress the ID One attempted to make (the futurization of the mechanical watch). There are a few ways of looking at the ID Two. You could look at it as a gear-head watch lover and be in awe, you could look at it as a luxury marketer and scratch your head, or you could look at it from the perspective of a consumer and think, “now that is pretty cool, I’d buy one for the right price.” The ID Two won’t be available for any price because Cartier isn’t going sell any. In fact it might be worth much more to them as a marquee product and brand defining concept piece.
