Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra GoodPlanet Watches
Omega has released several new Seamaster Planet Ocean watches for Baselworld 2016, but this isn’t to say that the dressier Aqua Terra line is being left out. In fact, two new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watches are released this year.?What is of note, however, is that a METAS Certified Master Chronometer-rated movement?is not yet available in the Aqua Terra watches. Even so, the new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra GoodPlanet will come in a 38.5mm version as well as a larger 43mm GMT model, and they look handsome as ever. What started as a conservation effort with the 2012 documentary film Planet Ocean, has now grown to include a new extension aimed at highlighting the fragile relations that we humans have with the animal kingdom. With the upcoming film, Terra, the focus is now on two new wildlife conservation efforts in Botswana and a portion of the proceeds from this watch collection will go towards funding these works.
Oris Big Crown 1917 Limited Edition Watch Hands-On
Vintage inspired watches are all the rage these days, and during Baselworld 2017, we saw the release of the Oris Big Crown 1917 Limited Edition watch, a limited edition piece that is very faithful to Oris’ recently discovered first pilot’s watch. Oris believed their first pilot’s watch was the 1938 Big Crown, but it turns out there was a previous model that dated back to 1917, which conveniently makes this year its 100th anniversary. The watch reliably sticks to its vintage pilot’s watch aesthetic while having contemporary modifications like a modern 40mm case size, the convenience of an automatic movement (which is still a little odd considering the onion crown), and the practical benefits of lume on the dial. There are, of course, 1,917 pieces of the watch being produced. The original Oris Big Crown from 1917Before we jump into the watch itself, it’s useful to take a brief look at the history of pilot watches to better understand the design and aesthetics
