Hands-On: Patek Philippe World Time 5231J Watch
A seminal world timer updated for 2019, the Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5231J is a horological work of art that is nearly impossible to get.The Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5231J is new for 2019, sitting alongside the existing 5231 that comes in a platinum case with that matching platinum beads-of-rice bracelet that defines peak low-key decadence. Housed in a 38.5mm-wide and 10.23mm-tall yellow gold case, the 5231J is slightly smaller than the 39.5mm wide 5231. This is the same case you'll find on the 5230 world timers, which are a little more accessible, due to the fact that they have the less elaborate guilloche center dial rather than the enamel. The smaller 38.5mm-wide case is preferable, though, as it doesn't have the "Patek Philippe"text engraved on the bezel at 12 o'clock and "Geneve"at 6 o'clock. I just think contemporary tastes don't lean toward bezel engravings (or elaborately stylized fonts, for that matter).

The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 has been around for just under a decade, and this year the brand gave this watch a subtle but visually significant dial refresh. The Tonda ("round"in Italian) line is Parmigiani's broadest, as it basically encompasses all of the round-cased watches that aren't in the Toric collection (which themselves are easily identified by the hand-knurling on their cases). Named after the year Michael Parmigiani was born, the Tonda 1950 is the quintessential Parmigiani Fleurier dress watch, and the new version is a welcome update with new hands, brand insignia, and dial touches.?The most immediate change comes to those "Delta-style"hands that are now skeletonized and have lost the lume. These new hands reveal the dial below and look absolutely fantastic on the rose-gold with slate-gray dial I handled, though there are two more variations of this specific dial update with a blue and a light cream dial. I say "this specific dial update"because these new hands have o
