NEWS WATCHES
Uniform Wares 200 & 300 Series Watches
Designed in London, Uniform Wares presents their second collection of timepieces with the 200 Series watches. UPDATE: Just when I was about to publish this article I learned that Uniform Wares also announced an upcoming 300 pieces Chronograph watch. The collection is based on the design on wall clocks (clearly), with a case that enhances this look featuring a lugless design. In the spirit of pieces such as the Mondaine Swiss Railways watch and the famous Max Bill watches, this functional minimalist design is a modern Bauhaus style classic and arrives with a reasonable price. Thanks to Ivan by the way for pointing this brand and collection out to me.The 100 Series watches were of the same exact design design vein. Looking at the collections side by side (you can see their 100 Series watches here), the 100 Series pieces feel like women or kid version of the 200 Series watches. Both collections are quite nice, but the 200 Series is more refined, has better components, and is larger.
Ask The Audience: How True To Original Should A Vintage-Inspired Watch Be?
When TAG Heuer released its Carrera 160 Years Montreal Limited Edition earlier this week, it seemed like something of a quirky sibling of the silver dial Carrera 160 Years. While the silver-dial variant (which we got to see at LVMH Dubai Watch Week) added a couple of millimeters to the original 2447S case, it is very largely a faithful re-edition in terms of design. Just a little less adherent to sticking close to the original, but still in this same vein is this week's big release, the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight in blue. Other than some changes to the bezel, crown guard, and indices shape, this modern Tudor doesn't stray from the old Marine Nationale "Blue Snowflake"pieces of the 1960s and 1970s.
