Squale 50 Atmos Ocean Blasted 1521-026 Diver's Watch Review
Born in Switzerland and now based in Italy, Squale exclusively produces dive watches, and they have a fascinating history to bolster their legit chops in dive watch design. While they don’t have a huge reach in North America, I met up with Squale at Baselworld and borrowed a strikingly blue Squale 50 Atmos Ocean Blasted 1521-026, one of the latest iterations of their beautifully-proportioned Squale 50 Atmos dive line and an excellent introduction to this quiet but intriguing brand.Watch brands cling to their history, both real and otherwise, as though it’s the only way they could convince you or I to buy one of their watches. In an industry that often pushes brands to oversell their lineage, Squale has an interesting and colorful past that should appeal to both divers and more casual fans that like legacy design and a family story. When you need a serious watch for a serious job, few brands out-pace Sinn for hard-wearing watches that can keep up with even the most demanding of conditions. Announced at Baselworld last year, this is the Sinn EZM 9, a TESTAF certified pilots watch that is the ultimate expression of Sinn’s three hand models. Designed to be capable, legible, and nearly invincible, the Sinn EZM 9 TESTAF is the watch equivalent of speaking softly whilst carrying a big stick.Launched in the early 90’s, Sinn’s EZM moniker loosely translates to “Mission Timer.” While Sinn doesn’t exactly make any watches that I would describe as whimsical or delicate, the EZM line takes the Sinn ethos to its logical end point. While the Sinn EZM 9 TESTAF is the sort of watch you could comfortably wear any day of the week for decades on end, I bet it would be just as comfortable on a summit bit of Everest.
