Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionnelle 14 Day Tourbillon Watch Hands-On: Open & Closed
I thought it would be interesting to display both versions of the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionnelle 14-Day Tourbillon side-by-side. This includes that standard version that here is the ref. 89000/000R-9655 as well as the 14-Day Tourbillon Openworked ref.? 89010/000P-9935 that is new for 2014. While essentially the same watch, the Openworked version has no traditional dial and a highly skeletonized movement. While the case and movement are the same, the two timepieces have very different personalities (and prices).It all starts with Vacheron Constantin’s in-house made caliber 2260 (which is the 2260 SQ in the Openworked version). This is a fantastic movement that is both beautiful and prestigious, as well as rather convenient to live with. If you must have a tourbillon, you may as well have one with a long power reserve (and indicator to show it). How long is the power reserve? Omega Relaunches Omega Calibre 321 That Powered The Original Moonwatch
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing and Omega is laying the foundation for what we can only expect to be a 50th Anniversary Speedmaster Moonwatch. Though the details of that are still to be confirmed,?Omega has just announced it is relaunching the production of its Omega Calibre 321, the movement that powered the original Moonwatch. I’ll eat my hat if anything else but this re-launched Calibre 321 makes it into the 50th Anniversary edition.There are a few caveats to the story, though. Omega say that the relaunched Calibre 321 will go into production at Omega HQ’s site in Bienne where, uniquely, all aspects of the creation will be undertaken within a dedicated Calibre 321 workshop, including the assembly of the movement, as well as that of the watch head and bracelet-all to be performed by the same watchmaker.
