Mido Commander II & Great Wall Watches
Mido is one of Swatch Group’s smaller brands that you rarely hear about. If you do, you know that like Tissot or (not available in the US) Certina, Mido offers some decent looking pieces at pretty reasonable prices (for a Swiss mechanical watch). As one of the underdog brands, sources say that the Swatch Group just isn’t quite sure what to do with them. Sounds like Mido just needs the right type of person in charge. Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon Watch
The highly anticipated SIHH watch industry trade show in January 2017 actually begins with releases months prior, and this annual cycle starts?right now with the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon. I was rather tough on the Traditionnelle Chronograph Perpetual that Vacheron debuted just a few weeks ago-even the moon face seemed sad about it-but just on first glance, this new-for-2017 model is off to a better start.Still hefty at 44 millimeters wide and 12.2 millimeters thick, Vacheron Constantin has thankfully stuck with the unusual but charming dial layout that we have gotten used to seeing with other Traditionnelle Tourbillon pieces, where the indices and minute track are all moved slightly upwards from the center horizontal axis of the dial. This visually makes the round case appear to be slightly taller and perhaps thinner than it actually is-a fun and rare treat among high-end watches to see on the wrist.
